Station #6: Witch Tests and “Evidence”

Click the arrow below to hear the audio for this station.

Vocabulary:

  • Evidence = information used to prove something
  • Mark = spot on the skin
  • Proof = facts that show something is true

Story:

The court begins to hear the accusations. When an accused person enters the room, the girls scream and fall to the floor. Leaders call this “spectral evidence,” meaning invisible spirits are hurting the children.

They also look for a “Devil’s mark,” such as a strange birthmark or scar. They think these marks show that a person works with the Devil.

These tests are unfair. Fear decides the rules, not fairness or proof.
