Check-in? Check!

We arrived at the race site in Quinton, OK around 5:15 p.m. so BT and Tad could check-in and pick up their race spiffs.

I snapped a few quick pictures of the athletes before we headed back the way we came.

Upon arriving at the thriving metropolis of Krebs, we stopped and ate at a little Italian restaurant named Roseanna’s, which is celebrating 75 years in business. My meal made me miss Maria’s cooking. At dinner, Tad slipped up and mentioned a condition called Rhabdo that endurance athletes have to watch out for. BT tried to catch Tad’s eye in an effort to get him to stop talking. When that didn’t work, he tried to play it off, as if Rhabdo was no big deal. Some quick Googling revealed that it is, in fact, a really big deal. I also read that they will likely experience hallucinations and, if they’re not careful, hypothermia. I’m glad I decided to come on this trip: the risks are real and BT is stubborn.

After getting some fuel in our tummies, we drove a few more minutes to our hotel in McAlester, OK. BT wanted to stay at La Quinta, but I convinced him to economize and save 50% by staying at Travelodge. Any money saved went directly into a girls’ weekend fund. I’ve stayed in much worse rooms.
